About
Who am I, and why quilting?
The picture on the far right is my great grandmother. Alva Russell. What a great name, Alva. She lived to be pretty old, though I'm not exactly sure if she reached 100 or not. She lived a long time, and sewed a lot of quilts and other things. She worked hard in a hard time. She knew how to bake a cake in a wood stove, and sewed extraordinary things by hand, or, in posh times, a treadle machine. I remember watching her call the chickens to feed, and how they ran to her patting of an elm leaf to bring them out of the bushes.

I feel like I celebrate her ingenuity every time I piece something together. Life is a journey and sewing my way through it has been, so far, a great vehicle.
